With the Death Cafe, Holy Grief Art is launching a pilot project on November 5, 2022, as part of the global movement of the same name “Death Cafe” [1] in the Unperfekthaus in Essen. The aim is to create a lively space for discussions about death, grief, and life.

Regular meetings are planned in the Unperfekthaus [2].

This venue, located in Essen, is being made available to Death Cafe Essen for a fee of approximately 9 Euros per person. However, the current admission rate at the Unperfekthaus applies. This also entitles you and other participants to unlimited use of the Unperfekthaus's catering and beverage offerings, as well as the club area.

The Death Cafe Essen is not just a mourning cafe in the narrow sense.

Rather, it is a vibrant platform for exchanging ideas on the entire range of topics "death, grief, and life". It is meant to complement the existing offering of Holy Grief Art for you and explicitly is not grief counseling. Rather, it is an open discussion group guided by a transparent culture of dialogue. And despite the seriousness of the subject matter, your physical well-being should not be neglected. You, as a participating person, are warmly invited to actively shape this exchange at Death Cafe Essen. Your opinion matters and is very relevant to all participants. You also have the opportunity at any time to get involved in Death Cafe Essen through voluntary work. Please feel free to contact the organizing persons about this.

The first official Death Cafe in Essen is scheduled to take place on November 5, 2022, at 3:00 PM and will be moderated by grief counselor Peter Höing. The moderator supports the Holy Grief Art team on a voluntary basis. Peter aims to creatively contribute personal experiences related to the above-mentioned topics to the Death Cafe. The open and creative exchange has also shown him new possibilities in processing these experiences. If it can help you as well, Peter is more than satisfied with his voluntary initiative.

Greater public awareness.

The topics "death and dying in the context of societal perception" are intended to gain social relevance in a lively and creative way through the cafe. They should be more strongly recognized by the public. The organizers and the moderator hope that discussing these topics in the setting of a leisure event will encourage a more mindful approach.
